Job Summary :
A registered professional Cardiovascular Specialist (CVS) employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and / or indirect care of patients seen in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
Education :
Required : Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing, Radiology Technology, Respiratory or Graduate of Cardiovascular Technology (CVT) with (RCIS) Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist credentialing.
Annual Erlanger Health System HLC courses.
Preferred : None
Experience :
Required : Knowledge of general nursing, radiology, and respiratory principles and practice skills.
Knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations. Knowledge of current trends and new developments in the cardiovascular arena.
Preferred : Previous clinical experience as a CVS in a Cardiac Cath Lab
Position Requirement(s) : License / Certification / Registration
Required : Current licensure or registry for area of specialty in the state of Tennessee.
BLS completed prior to going to the unit / department and maintained going forward
Current ACLS certification
Annual Erlanger Health System credentialing per department policies & procedures
Preferred : None
Registered Nurses, Radiology Technicians or Respiratory will be encouraged to become RCIS credentialed within one year of being fully-trained in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
Department Position Summary :
A registered professional Cardiovascular Specialist (CVS) in the Cardiac Cath Lab is responsible for direct and / or indirect patient care. He / she must have the ability to assess patients, administer pharmacological drugs as ordered, perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care assigned and assist physician with procedures. The CVS must be familiar with sterile technique, cath lab equipment, procedures and radiation safety.
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the Cardiac Cath Lab. The CVS must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the Cardiac Cath Lab's policies and procedures.
