We are hiring for the following:

Position:    Physician, Part Time (2 or 3 locations within South Carolina)

  • We have comprehensive Guidelines that Nurses use when screening patients before you see them.
  • The detention center is staffed by licensed healthcare professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • All behavioral and mental health patients are diagnosed and managed by Licensed Mental Health clinicians and our Psychiatrist.
  • We have very clear protocols and guidelines for individuals who might be in withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines and other substances.
  • There is a Dentist and Dental Assistant on-site two days per week.
  • We have designated medical records clerks that will request and obtain offsite medical records.
  • We have a very user-friendly EMR system and a dedicated in-house support team to help train and troubleshoot any issues as needed.
  • No more insurance hassles, unnecessary bureaucratic paperwork, or worrying about collections.
  • The medical department and any other areas that you may end up to see patients is staffed by security personnel 24/7.
  • The majority of the new arrivals to the detention center will be released or bonded within the first week.
  • MEDIKO will provide training and orientation to correctional medicine by physicians and personnel with decades of experience in this field.

Responsibilities:

  • Abide by MEDIKO protocols, policies, procedures, and regulations of assigned correctional facility
  • Oversee MAT/MOUD programs and prescribe MAT/MOUD medications as indicated
  • Notify Corporate Medical Director and Health Services Administrator (HSA) of schedule coverages and schedule changes
  • Assist in arrangements of coverage of medical services if unavailable for extended period of time
  • Maintain current state licensure and provide copy for personnel file
  • Review and countersign therapeutic orders and corresponding progress notes of inmates seen by the PA/ARNP, if applicable, ensuring orders/notes are appropriate and effective
  • Visit the infirmary daily when on-site and record encounters in the patient’s progress notes, if applicable
  • Document promptly and properly
  • Ensure all documentation is dated, timed, problem-oriented and encounters are located in EMR with documents or legible and signed if handwritten
  • Adhere to the established formulary for therapeutic regimes before utilizing non-formulary procedures
  • Provide emergency treatment on-site and respond appropriately in urgent or emergency situations
  • Demonstrate proper technique for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and related drug therapy
  • Support standards of correctional medical care through adherence to existing policies and procedures for: admission to the infirmary, transfer to emergency room, and utilization review process for specialty consultant referrals
  • Supervise care given by other processional or non-professional personnel, providing instructions as needed
  • Provide clinical oversight to the facility medical program as defined by the ACA standards
  • Consult with medical specialists for advice and expertise in their respective areas
  • Provide consultation for all professionals in the system
  • Serve as member of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) committee; make recommendations to improve patient outcomes
  • Serve as liaison with health care providers in the community
  • Review all death and inmate grievances and appeals
  • Work with the Health Services administrator (HSA) to establish and maintain chronic care clinics that assure compliance with ACA and NCCHC standards
  • Assist the HSA in monitoring pharmacy to include formulary compliance, prescribing patterns and dispensing of medications, participation with P&T committee
  • Ensure respect, dignity and confidentiality of patients
  • Provide on-call services as assigned by the facility and/or company needs

Qualifications

  • Must have and maintain current state licensure
  • Must maintain a current DEA registration
  • Board certified or qualified by the state law and regulation to practice medicine
  • Experience in Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Public Health preferred
  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved)
