STORMWATER TECHNICIAN I
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
Under general supervision, is responsible for assisting in the evaluation and inspection of commercial and residential construction projects to ensure compliance with the Medina County Stormwater Management and Sediment Control Rules and Regulations.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
The duties listed below are intended to illustrate work functions which may be required of this classification:
Evaluates sites to ensure the compliance of commercial, residential, and/or pond construction projects with applicable Medina County Stormwater Management and Sediment Control Permits by inspecting the drainage and soil erosion/sediment control aspects of the project before, during and after construction; advises contractors and property owners of County procedures, standards and any necessary corrective measures;
Interacts with the Medina County Soil and Water Conservation District, property owners and/or contractors;
Evaluates and responds to drainage-related complaints filed by the public; develops solutions where applicable;
Investigates maintenance requirements of existing stormwater drainage facilities;
Cooperates with supervisory and engineering staff to complete the duties listed herein;
Provides technical support for the Medina County Highway Use and Driveway Permit Technician(s);
Performs job-related record-keeping, filing and copying;
Performs all other related duties as required.
NECESSARY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES (At time of application)
Ability to read, understand and interpret construction plans, grading plans, topographic maps and surveys; knowledge of general stormwater drainage and soil erosion and sediment control concepts; knowledge of equipment and materials used in construction; ability to walk on variable terrain; skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, government officials, contractors and the general public; skills in handling sensitive telephone and face-to-face inquiries and contacts with government officials, contractors and the general public; effective oral communication skills and written communication skills in letter writing, emails and communication with the public; ability to gather and organize data and maintain records; ability to manage multiple priorities; ability to calculate fractions, decimals and percentages; ability to bend and lift up to 50 pounds; ability to work in variable weather environments.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Significant driving time between work sites; working outside exposed to inclement weather; exposure to construction sites and conditions; exposure to construction equipment; may be exposed to dirt, dust, water, mud, fumes, thickly vegetated areas and/or extremes in temperatures; may be expected to work some holidays/weekends and overtime when needed; may be expected to attend special training sessions as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRABLE FOR EMPLOYMENT
Any combination of training and/or work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed above.
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent thereof.
Possession of a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license, and the ability to be insured to drive a motor vehicle covered by the Board of Medina County Commissioners policy.
