Job Summary
The Lead Driver is responsible for hands-on vehicle maintenance, including inspections, oil changes, and last-minute repairs. This role also oversees the driver training program, ensuring new drivers are properly trained through a comprehensive two-day shadowing and supervised driving process. The Lead Driver will support operational needs and assist with vehicle assignments as required, working closely with the Fleet Manager to uphold Medlift’s mission.
Responsibilities
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Manage the maintenance schedule for the fleet, coordinating routine oil changes, inspections, and last-minute repairs to ensure full operational readiness.
- Conduct regular vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards, including spot checks.
- Assist in transporting vehicles between locations as needed (e.g., wheelchair-accessible and non-wheelchair-accessible).
Driver Training:
- Train new drivers through a structured two-day program, involving shadowing and supervised driving.
- Verify proper usage of required phone applications.
- Provide ongoing mentorship to new and existing drivers to uphold high performance standards.
- Track and report on driver performance during training, completing necessary paperwork.
Operational Support:
- Support fleet management by moving vehicles as needed, ensuring they are well-maintained and operational.
- Assist in coordinating vehicle assignments when a vehicle is down for maintenance.
Communication:
- Maintain effective communication with the fleet manager, dispatch, and operations teams regarding vehicle readiness and driver performance.
- Keep detailed records of vehicle maintenance and repair schedules.
Requirements:
- Prior experience in vehicle maintenance and fleet operations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and mentor new drivers.
- Experience with basic vehicle repairs, inspections, and oil changes.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Additional Information
The Lead Driver will focus on on-site activities, vehicle maintenance, and driver training, complementing the Fleet Manager's remote and oversight responsibilities. Our drivers are trained in operating wheelchair and ambulatory vehicles. Medlift’s diverse fleet includes sedans, ambulatory vehicles, wheelchair-accessible vehicles, and passenger vans—all equipped with first aid and bio-hazard kits.
