What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tech - Cytotechnology position at Medlinkhealth Anesthesia Associates?
Position Summary: Performs specialized and technically demanding cytology examinations to determine pathological conditions. Maintains laboratory equipment, supplies, and records following established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Performs accurate technical cytological screening and interpretation, according to established procedures, for both Gynecological and Non-Gynecological cytology samples.
- Refer appropriate cases for hierarchical review by recording classifications on slides and alerting pathologists to abnormal cell structures for further examination.
- Assists with coordinating FNA Procedure schedules between Endoscopy and Radiology areas.
- Attends FNA Procedures and performs fine needle aspiration Rapid On-Site Evaluations in a timely fashion and provides an adequacy assessment to the performing physician, communicating in a professional manner.
- Processes and prepares FNA ROSE specimens for examination, providing proper record keeping and labeling of slides and specimens.
- Properly triages ancillary testing as needed.
- Performs the proper setup/cleanup of the FNA Cart.
- Accurately enters data and results within the laboratory information system.
- Maintains screening workload and quality assurance records.
- Serves as a technical resource and assists in investigating issues/concerns surrounding the daily operation of equipment and/or specimens.
- Properly communicates scheduling or technical concerns to both operational and medical leadership.
- Operates, calibrates, and maintains equipment.
- Prepares and maintains Cytology inventory by checking stock levels, anticipating supply needs, placing orders for supplies and verifying receipt of supplies.
- Collects data and prepares managements reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
- Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Requirements
- 2 Years of Experience - Required
- Experienced in attending Fine Needle Aspirations to provide Rapid On-Site procedure coverage and specimen adequacy evaluations - Required
- Able to perform both primary and QC screening - Required
- Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) - Required
- Travel - Preferred
Certification Requirements
