Established Internal Medicine and Pediatric Practice is looking for a Lab Technician/Phlebotomist to join our team. Essential functions include but are not limited to the following:
Job Responsibilities
- Keeps laboratory supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders and verifying receipt.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs.
- Documents information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
- Resolves problems by examining and evaluating data and selecting corrective steps.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility
- Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times and maintain a clean and orderly environment
- Collect blood samples from patients
- Practice proper patient identification
- Label vials with patient names and dates
- Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient
- Sample processing
- Perform and manage CLIA-waived tests accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and protocols.
- Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status
- Be friendly, courteous and sympathetic when it comes to working with patients
- Keep phlebotomy station well-organized at all times
- Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment
Laboratory Technician Qualifications / Skills:

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician
- Experience with effective puncture techniques
- Understanding of proper patient identification methods
- Computer experience in Electronic Medical Records (Centricity Practice Solutions a plus)
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to connect with various types of patients (such as children, elderly, pregnant women) and make them feel comfortable
- Patience and presence of mind
- Diploma in Phlebotomy or extensive on-the-job training
- Certification is a plus
- Experience running lab equipment
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Ability to Multi-task
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in busy clinic setting, Internal Medicine and/or Pediatrics a plus
