What are the responsibilities and job description for the Compounding Pharmacy Technician position at MedQuest Pharmacy?
The Compounding Technician is responsible for lab functions that may include formula and compounding record preparation, and compounding and labeling a variety of non-sterile compounded medications. All duties are performed efficiently and accurately under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Compounding Lab Technician demonstrates a commitment to the mission of the Pharmacy and goals of Belmar Pharma.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable pharmacy rules and regulations
- Follow all policies and procedures set forth by Belmar Pharma
- Strong comprehension of USP 795
- Have a strong working knowledge of pharmacy software.
- Enter new compounds into dispensing pharmacy software
- Prioritize and prepare formula and compound records
- Compound medications accurately and efficiently
- File necessary paperwork
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance duties
- Provide excellent service to internal customers on the phone and in person
- Assist in initial and continuous training of staff
- Pull outdated medications for destruction
- Restock supplies and keep pharmacy neat and orderly
- Maintain compliance with Company and HIPAA patient confidentiality requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned including, but not limited to: Perform inventories and ordering, assist in finding, stopping, expediting specific orders, project work
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Current CPhT Certification or ability to take CPhT examination as required by state law
- Compounding and/or laboratory experience preferred

Additional Notes
- May work in a variety of positions and locations such as sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking; for prolonged periods of time
- Potential exposure to chemicals used in the preparation of compounds (some chemicals are classified as toxic and special safety precautions must be taken when working with these chemicals)
- Must be able to use necessary equipment such as computers, scanners, phone/headset, or other technology devices as assigned
- Must be able to wear required compounding safety equipment for long periods of time when required
