Ensures necessary staffing/manpower, operation/maintenance of equipment, training of other technologists and handles inventory and ordering of supplies. The position consists of approximately 75% scanning responsibilities and 25% management responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Complete scans effectively and efficiently:
- Collect pertinent data about the patient and the procedure
- Select the most appropriate and cost-effective action plan after reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition
- Position and prepare the patient for technical procedures
- Review the patient’s chart and the physician’s request to determine optimal scanning parameters
- Enter necessary patient information to initiate the procedure
- Assess and monitor the patient’s physical and mental status throughout the procedure
- Review images to determine if additional scans will enhance the diagnostic value of the procedure
- Document diagnostic, treatment and patient data in the appropriate record. Documentation must be timely, accurate, concise and complete
- Keep work flow in such a manner that it is an effective use of time, equipment and supplies
- Maintain the highest standards of patient care possible:
- Implement and maintain the MedQuest Customer Service Programs
- Provide accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient can understand
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique
- Exhibit exemplary technical competence and clinical judgment
- Ensure that the required supplies and equipment are available
- Check all equipment routinely and perform preventive maintenance when necessary
- Monitor patient flow and wait times, assign additional staff or perform scans personally as needed
- Act as a preceptor for new employees
- Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues, peers and all members of the healthcare team
- Lead at least two training sessions per year for fellow employees
- Develop at least two case studies per year to present to others in the Center or Region
- Develop one training session to present on marketing calls as necessary
- Provide cross-training for all employees on additional modalities within the center
- Ensure the Center’s compliance with MedQuest Policy procedures, OSHA, local, state and Federal regulatory requirements.
- Follow radiation protection guidelines
- Participate in formal training and service programs
- Ensure that deadlines are met with regards to reports
- Ensure HIPPA guidelines are followed
- Perform quality assurance activities based on established quality protocols
- Document quality assurance activities and results
- Develop procedures to ensure that the Center is in regulatory compliance
- Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to medical records and other data
- Exhibit an understanding of the Center budget and scan volumes:
- Communicate regularly with the scheduling department
- Establish goals with the scheduling department
- Develop a system to add unscheduled patients into the timetable for scans
- Continuing Education:
- Cross-train for additional modalities within the center
- Complete and retain certification in two or more specialty technologies
- Build education files on an outstanding or interesting case
- Administer Center operations in the technical area:
- Control expenses and costs associated with the technology department
- Provide input into the long-range goals and planning of the facility, equipment and staff
- Leadership:
- Support management and display a strong positive attitude
- Promote a positive morale in Center by actively and routinely interfacing with other techs to assess and address questions or concerns
- Work closely with referring physicians and office staff to achieve overall Center goals and promote Center services
- Supervise the performance of technical staff and complete staff evaluations in a timely manner
- Effectively recommend hiring, terminating, counseling and disciplining staff technologists
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program or ARRT registered
- Must complete required CEU’s in a timely manner to ensure Certification(s) remain active
- Certified in two or more modalities in addition to XR
- At least six years of experience as an technologist working in multiple modalities

- Knowledge of procedures and standards
- Skilled in operation of equipment
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
