General Summary of Position
Provides ongoing education to Clinical Documentation Improvement staff system-wide. Provides education and training to newly hired Clinical Documentation Specialists. Participates in the department quality audit processes by performing assigned audits, communication of findings, and data entry for reporting. Leads system-wide clinical documentation operating plan and collaborating closely with the Director of Coding, Quality, and Education. Collaborates with Medical Staff Leadership in the ongoing education efforts involving clinical documentation improvement. Collaborates with system-wide VPMAs and Physician Advisors, Corporate Quality, and Coding Operations and Quality Assurance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required or
- Master's degree preferred or
- Foreign Medical Graduate with relevant experience; required and
- completed coding courses in ICD-10-CM/PCS; required and
- certification in clinical documentation improvement from AHIMA preferred or
- ACIDIS preferred
Experience
- Experience in the acute care setting; experience in working with physicians and clinical professionals; experience in documentation review including coding and DRG analysis; experience in the clinical documentation specialist role;knowledge of inpatient acute care standards for coding, the joint commission, HIPPA, and other regulatory requirements. required and
- Knowledge of maryland rate setting and reimbursement under the CMS waiver preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- CDIP - Clinical Documentation Improvement Professional Clinical documentation improvement certification from ACDIS preferred or
- AHIMA ICD-10 Trainer Certif - ICD-10 AHIMA; completion of ICD-10-CM/PCS approved Trainer credential preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer skills including working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communications; Good public speaking and presentation skills; attention to detail; follow up on outstanding issues; ability to organize, priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records Systems and prior work with 3m Clintrac, 3m 360, and Cerner a plus.
