What are the responsibilities and job description for the Central Sterile Technician III position at medstar-pilot?
The Central Sterile Supply Technician III performs under direct supervision all the functions expected of the Central Sterile Supply Technician I and II. They assist in orientation of new employees to each work assignment area and overall department operation. They will serve as a resource person for all the following functions: decontamination, prep and packaging and sterilization of all surgical trays and unit procedure trays. The Central Sterile Supply Technician III possesses a high level of familiarity with surgical instrument technology including preventative maintenance procedures, functionality, cleaning standards and distribution functions as it relates to case carts, exchange carts, par level carts and inventory control. The Central Sterile
Supply Technician III ensures that the items being prepared for sterilization are clean, function properly, and are in good repair. They have the ability to differentiate between steam and low temperature sterilized supplies. They must package supplies according to the manufacturer's specifications. The Central Sterile Supply Technician III assumes the lead role for the unit or department functional areas (e.g. surgical specialty - Orthopedics) and identifies, receives approval for, and maintains department specific goals (e.g. monitoring Sterilization Records for accuracy) in the absence of the Lead Central Sterile Supply Technician.
