What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Specialist WOCN RNTitle position at medstar-pilot?
The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse functions primarily as a consultant; provides direct patient care and education to selected patients. Serves as a subject matter expert to peers, providers and leaders including staff education and development of care management approaches to maximizing clinical outcomes for complex, draining wounds, fistulas, pressure injuries and surgical incisions. Responsible for product and equipment recommendations in clinical areas of expertise. Participates in hospital and system wide committees and projects as indicated, including monthly Prevalence audits and outpatient ostomy clinic. Serves as a resource, preceptor and mentor.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
·Bachelor's degree in nursing required
·Current certification or currently enrolled in WOC certified program.
Experience
·1-2 years clinical experience required
Licenses and Certifications
·RN - Registered Nurse Licensure in the District of Columbia required
·BLS - Basic Life Support required
·Wound Ostomy Certification is preferred. Must obtain certification within 1 year of hire.
