MedStar Health is looking for an Audiologist to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center! We are looking for a licensed audiologist with high problem-solving for human, technical, clinical, or administrative problems, and the development of solutions. 

As an Audiologist, you will provide a full range of diagnostic audiological and vestibular services to patients, including neonates, with hearing disorders or balance disturbances. Evaluates, select, and fit patients with assistive listening devices, hearing aids, and amplification systems.

Primary Duties: 

  • Confers and provides a full range of diagnostic audiology and vestibular evaluations on in- and out-patients on-site and at designated off-site locations including infant hearing screening on newborns. Uses objective test measures in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and participates in audiology monitoring in the OR as assigned. Evaluates patient needs for hearing aid amplification. Selects, fits, and dispenses hearing devices. Teaches the use and care of hearing aids. Conducts follow-up phone calls and schedules visits for adjustments and to address any problems.  

  • Counsels patients regarding test results and makes appropriate recommendations. Provides family counseling on aspects of hearing and balance disorders. Provides in-services to nursing staff and medical/ENT residents as the audiologist. Serves as resource/representative for audiologists in the hospital. Completes progress notes and consultation summaries in medical records. Provides reports to referral sources. Provides appropriate speech-language referrals as required 

  • Provides internal hearing aid repairs where possible. Prepares and processes other repairs to be completed by the appropriate manufacturer. Completes and ensures accuracy of all required documentation for patient billing.  

  • Assists in the interview/selection of audiology staff as requested by the department head. Orients new Audiologist I staff to the hospital and department policies and procedures. Provides input to the director on performance evaluations for audiology staff. Serves as the staff resource audiologist for staff, physicians, patients, and family members for the cochlear implant program and other special auditory programs that may be implemented.  

  • Collaborates with the department head in writing and formulating audiology policies and procedures. Make recommendations regarding capital budget expenditures. Provides guidance to and serves as a professional resource for graduate students completing a clinical practicum. Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature, and by attending related seminars and conferences. Communicates relevant information to audiology staff. Facilitates audiology staff meetings as requested. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Master’s degree in Audiology.  

  • Licensure as an Audiologist in Maryland or the District of Columbia within 90 Days  

  • Certification by the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association. 

  • 2 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience preferred
