The preferred working location for this role is Medtronic Operational Headquarters, located in Fridley, Minnesota; however, the individual may also work remotely within the US or onsite at another US-based Medtronic facility.

The Director of Modeling and Simulation is a key role within the Global Technology and Innovation – Core Technologies group that is focused on identifying and executing Computational Modeling and Simulation research and development project, working across the enterprise to identify need, and directing a portfolio of technology programs. The role will interface extensively with OU Research, Technology, & Development teams extensively on M&S matters of importance.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
• Responsible for shaping MDT's Modeling and Simulation strategy and serves as an advocate for the business value of M&S including development of value propositions for efficiency and innovation.  
• Brings a visionary mindset: Combines technologies building blocks like image-based modeling, AI and machine learning, and physics-based modeling to contribute to optimizing patient outcomes and transforming business models.
• Identifies, scopes, and develops plans and new capabilities for leverage across the Enterprise (ie: (PINNs, Physiological Modeling, others).  Develops and integrates these technology building blocks in projects both internal to the group and in contributing to key OU R&D products, projects, and programs.
• Collaborates across OUs on the direction of basic research and development relevant to long-term objectives and concerns.  Ensures execution of agreed to OU specific Modeling collaborations.
ENTERPRISE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead Pan-Medtronic Modeling Working Group
o Deliver on plans to make modeling more accessible and driving down costs related to modeling software.
o Leadership presence and executive level communication.
o Develop and maintain FDA influence and strategy for modeling adoption and connection with key MDT regulatory contacts.
o Identify infrastructure projects to support Digital Thread and Digital Twin initiatives (ie: SPDM and related.)
• Writes, reviews, and approves manuscripts for publication as needed.
• Monitors and evaluates completion of portfolio of tasks and projects.
• Oversees interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
• Leads and provides functional leadership for Core Technologies Modeling and Simulation team including overall strategy and talent development activities. 
• External Engagement:
o External Partnerships: Identify and establish relationships with outside organizations and potential technology partners as needed to advance business objectives. 
o Participates in scientific meetings to gain knowledge about new technologies pertinent to business interests.  May contribute to scientific literature and conferences. 
o Benchmark external and related industries (automotive, aerospace) to identify best-practices and maintain awareness of trends and research. 
• Assesses Technology and Intellectual Property landscape.
MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)
• Bachelor’s degree
• 10 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 8 years of experience with an advanced degree
• 7 years of managerial experience 
NICE TO HAVE (Preferred Qualifications)
• Strongly Preferred:
o PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
o Demonstrated knowledge and application of Computational mechanics, including solid mechanics, fluid/thermal mechanics, tissue mechanics and/or multi-physics.
• MD/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• Medical / Clinical experience or background
• Musculoskeletal imaging, Computational modeling of living tissues, Biomechanics
• Knowledge of Physiologic modeling
• Knowledge of the workflow from clinical image to patient-specific computational models
• Simulation of device-tissue interactions. 
• Working knowledge of related technologies: imaging and AI (PINNs, scientific machine learning, and related technologies)
• Knowledge and interaction with adjacent functions (Clinical, Regulatory, others); and external Industry groups and Regulatory agencies including the FDA.
• Thought leader within the field of Computational Modeling and Simulation

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.   
Executive Level Roles: Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
