A Day in the Life

Medtronic is growing and seeks a Senior Principal Software Engineer - Full Stack to help define and build the future of our image guided surgery and robotic portfolio of products.

You will be a great fit for this Senior Principal Software Engineer role if you:

  • Want to use your technical skills to impact real people every day - Medtronic products are used worldwide to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life.
  • Want technical ownership over your work and enjoy being involved in the entire software lifecycle (concept to landing).
  • Love working cross functionally with product, security, quality, regulatory, testing, and more while building real products.
  • Have a track record of successfully building and landing modern cloud-based software using React, Typescript, Python, AWS, Docker, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, etc.
  • Enjoy mentoring others through code reviews and jam sessions that are thoughtful and encourage defensive-coding patterns, best practices, and practical tradeoff decisions.
  • Value scalable, available, maintainable, testable, observable cloud software.
  • Execute independently and are comfortable digging deep into a variety of technical areas to provide technical leadership and architectural suggestions are a strong communicator, able to discuss technical topics with anyone from engineers through stakeholders
  • Experience building enterprise cloud software.
  • Have project management skills, including planning, estimation, and requirements management.

Minimum requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related Engineering field and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or and advance degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

Nice to have - In addition, we would be excited if you:

  • Have a history of broad technical and non-technical impact on projects ranging from new product initiatives through evolving capabilities mature systems with a robust user base.
  • Have project management skills, including Agile planning and estimation.
  • Have experience developing medical software, working in regulated industries, or an interest in learning.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$169,600.00 - $254,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20 hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns. Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
