Role Summary

The Vice President of Medical Excellence and Education is a key role in the implementation of organization wide veterinary healthcare excellence efforts with a focus on driving performance improvement in medical quality, patient safety, workflow efficiency to increase healthcare delivery capacity, and expense management. The Vice President will oversee and enhance medical education, quality, and training programs across our nationwide network of veterinary emergency and multi-specialty hospitals. This role is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive medical excellence and education strategy that aligns with MedVet’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

The Vice President of Medical Excellence and Education will lead efforts to advance medical education programs, drive process improvement, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development. This role will collaborate closely with doctors, Medical Directors, Regional Medical Directors, and other healthcare leadership to implement best practices and support high-quality patient outcomes.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Medical Education Leadership :

  • Develop and execute a multi-year strategy for all postgraduate medical education programs, including rotating internships, specialty internships, emergency clinician mentorship programs, and specialty residencies.
  • Ensure compliance with all accreditation requirements for training programs and maintain strong affiliations with veterinary schools and academic institutions.
  • Oversee onboarding programs and professional development initiatives to ensure successful training completion and career advancement for clinicians.
  • Partner with Medical Recruiting to identify current and future needs, oversee the match process, and ensure the recruitment of top talent into training programs.
  • Lead the design and execution of continuous education initiatives, ensuring MedVet remains at the forefront of veterinary medical education.
  • Oversee development of a clinician mentorship program for new specialists joining MedVet.
  • Work with Medical Recruiting and the Director of Post Graduate Education to facilitate the retention of residents in attending physician roles after completion of the residency program.
  • Support the ECMP director in scaling our successful emergency mentorship program across all hospitals within MedVet

Medical Quality and Process Improvement :

  • Support the Director of Medical Quality as they lead quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Healthcare Steering Committee and other leadership teams.
  • Work with the Director of Medical Quality as they establish and implement quality metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to patient care outcomes, adverse event tracking, and clinical workflow efficiency.
  • Oversee the development of patient safety programs and ensure best practices in medical excellence.
  • Partner with the Vice President of Healthcare Process Excellence to enhance care delivery efficiency and optimize hospital operations.
  • Clinical Studies Program Oversight :

  • Provide executive leadership for MedVet’s clinical studies program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and advancing veterinary medical knowledge.
  • Oversee the development, approval, and execution of clinical research initiatives across MedVet hospitals.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and ethical guidelines governing clinical studies in veterinary medicine.
  • Promote clinician and patient participation in clinical research to enhance treatment options and medical advancements.
  • Evaluate and integrate research findings into MedVet’s clinical education and medical excellence programs.
  • Collaboration and Leadership :

  • Serve as an active member of the Medical Services Leadership Team and other key committees.
  • Act as a thought leader and change agent, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality patient care.
  • Stay informed of evolving trends in medical education, specialty board requirements, and advancements in veterinary medicine.
  • Oversee development of a mentorship program for training program directors, ensuring a consistent and exceptional educational experience for trainees.
  • Represent MedVet at appropriate national veterinary conferences and professional meetings, strengthening our industry presence and academic partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities for new training programs and education initiatives to support MedVet’s growth and leadership in the veterinary field.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    A DVM with Specialty board certification and 15 years of experience, including in leadership roles, in specialty veterinary medicine is required. Experience with medical quality and training programs in the veterinary profession is essential. In addition, this position requires :

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and manage complex projects with limited supervision.
  • Adept multi‐tasker with ability to quickly prioritize and effectively delegate tasks.
  • Advanced information gathering and information monitoring skills.
  • Successful business record of collaborative leadership to achieve strategic objectives including excellent ability for managing people, building consensus, and integrating team efforts to achieve goals.
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions.
  • Work professionally and cooperatively with diverse constituents and work both independently and as part of the MedVet leadership team, committed to DEI in the workplace.
  • Initiative, independent judgement, personal credibility, assertiveness, and decisiveness are required.
  • Experience with medical quality systems and initiatives preferred

  • Ability to balance big‐picture organizational goals and long‐term strategy with day‐to‐day oversight
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across functions
  • Strong relationship skills with the ability to quickly create high functioning teams
  • Ability to learn process improvement methodologies and tools
  • Competent utilizing Microsoft office programs
  • Travel time is approximately 25%
