JOB SUMMARY: To assist in the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment of hospital in good repair. Minor electrical work, mechanical repairs, and other duties relating to maintenance are the primary duties. Performs other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE DIMENSIONS AND TASKS
Essential Function
1. Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner as to reflect the highest integrity of the Engineering Department/Service.
a. Assists in maintaining and repairing H.V.A.C. controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas.
b. Performs urgent corrective, routine, and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems as required.
c. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and systems as required.
d. As required, assists in maintaining electrical wiring and emergency generator systems. Inspects and tests equipment/systems.
e. Performs preventative maintenance duties to all physical structures of hospital and complies with all building safety codes. This is to include facility equipment and associated controls.
f. Assist in replacing, installing, repairing and testing electrical circuits, equipment, appliances and lighting systems as required.
g. Maintains routine records of all inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs performed on any equipment or system.
h. Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material).
i. Reads blueprints, interprets instructions, and prepares specifications.
j. Will work day, evening, or graveyard shift as assigned.
k. Ability to do work on their own without core than the normal supervision.
l. Must be able to work as a team member and be able to inspect the facilities and equipment.
m. Knowledge of the Life safety Management plan (including the fire alarm and signal system).
n. A thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain plant tools and equipment.
o. Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.
p. Maintains age specific safety precautions including:
• Pediatric - All electrical outlets in pediatric patient care areas will have covers. No small or sharp objects or tools that may injure pediatric patients or visitors will be left out.
• Elderly – Adequate lighting will be maintained for good visibility. Hallways and pathways will be free of debris, equipment, tools and liquid spills.
q. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years related maintenance experience and/or training. Prefer background in hospital or industrial maintenance.
Skill Requirements: Ability to work well with others. Ability to read, comprehend, and follow complex technical instructions. Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude. Ability to work in accordance with hospital/engineering safe practices. Able to work swing or night shifts as required. Ability and willingness to participate in continuing education. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Working knowledge of fire alarm and signal systems. Thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain plant tools and equipment. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Licensing Requirements: Must sign Mee Memorial Hospital System Drivers Agreement
Provide Valid California Driver License – upon hire and prior to expiration
Provide Current DMV Record – upon hire and annually during anniversary month
Provide Proof of California mandatory limits of liability motor vehicle insurance – upon hire and prior to expiration

Physical Demands: Lift 100 lbs. X 1. Stand for 2 hours, climb ladders, work at heights over 8 feet. Crawl through and over obstructed and highly reduced clearance areas. Manual dexterity to manipulate tools required to effect repairs. Must be willing to work around high voltage, electrical equipment, hot water and steam lines in hot, cold and wet conditions.
Special Demands: Frequently required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
