What are the responsibilities and job description for the KCC-Lead Medical Assistant FT/Days position at Mee Memorial Hospital?
JOB SUMMARY:
The Lead Medical Assistant (LMA) works under the supervision of the LVN Supervisor to support efficient patient flow and ensure quality care. This role involves assisting the LVN Supervisor in training new staff and providing support to providers and back-office staff with Cerner-related questions and training on new workflows.
PERFORMANCE DIMENSIONS AND TASKS
Essential Function
1. Acts as a team player and medical support person.
2. Assist in the supervision of work and performance of clinic staff including medical assistants and other support staff, as
instructed, including input for performance reviews and corrective action plans as needed.
3. Oversee and train new and existing staff along with the LVN supervisor.
4. Assist with the coordination of work with the Patient Care Coordinators for follow up on missed appointments, reminder calls, lost to care calls, and high-risk referrals. Track abnormal PAPS and mammograms using i2i and ensure proper patient f/u and referrals.
5. Works collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve patient outcomes. Assists in organizing and participating in quality improvement activities.
6. Provide Cerner support to medical assistants and providers.
7. Records information related by patient relative to present family and social history, past medical history, history of present illness, and current chief complaint.
8. Review charts, lab test results, and encounter forms for completeness and to assess follow-up as needed.
9. Assist with clinic scheduling problem solving, patient wait times, and other areas of concern to increase efficient and quality services.
10. Perform other administrative tasks and clinical care as assigned by the LVN supervisor and Clinic Manager.
11. Completes tasks after completing demonstrated competencies, as outlined in approved policy and procedure; follows guidelines as established through standardized procedures.
12. Coordinate the inventory, ordering and supply stock maintenance of medical supplies.
13. Provide sick/vacation leave backup for medical assistants, and other clinic support staff.
14. Assist with other administrative projects and tasks as needed.
15. Ensures completion of documentation required by policy and procedure, as well as documentation required by programs and/or payors relative to visit type or patient’s prior medical history.
16. Gathers or rechecks essential data at each visit in accordance with current policy and procedure, standardized procedure and approved medical record templates.
17. Accurately obtains and documents vital signs (height/length, weight, BMI, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, pain, head circumference when indicated for infants) and growth charts.
18. Practices good communications skills
19. Keeps patient informed of what is going on throughout their stay.
20. Demonstrates a cooperative and positive attitude when assisting patients.
21. Documents all interaction with patients including face-to-face and telephone conversations.
22. Under written orders and/or standardized procedures, performs point-of-care tests according to approved laboratory procedures, accurately recording results in the medical record.
23. Assists LVN Supervisor, Clinic Manager or Providers when necessary in:
a. Maintaining inventory of medications and supplies
b. Administering certain medications and injections under the supervision of a provider
c. Ensures results and reports are brought to the attention of the provider with abnormal results prioritized
d. Assisting with nursing assignments
24. Assists with orientation of new staff, and any on-going education and training of existing staff.
25. Assists in communicating new processes to clinic staff and providers.
26. Mentors medical assistant externs and/or new hire medical assistants during their introductory period.
27. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of certified MA program and a passing score of at least 80% on a Mee Memorial Clinic Medical Dose Calculation Pre-placement test. - Required
Skill Requirements: Knowledge of Medical Terminology. Ability to write legibly, spell correctly and perform basic mathematics. Experience with Cerner required. Experience in various insurance coverage, verifying eligibility and benefits. Must be computer literate.
Licensing Requirements: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers - Required
Language Requirements: Bilingual (English/Spanish) - Required
Physical Demands: Must be able to sit and stand/walk for 12 hours per day. Must be able to bend, push/pull and lift up to 50 pounds.
Special Demands: Ability to work with others and to perform a variety of assigned duties. Able to build quickly and maintain rapport with patients, other team members, providers, and others in the community.
Special Considerations: Will be dealing with patients of all ages to include; children/pediatrics, adolescents, adults and elderly/geriatrics.
