Automation Engineer – Drug Substance, Design & Delivery

About the Role:
We are partnering with a leading pharmaceutical company to hire an Automation Engineer to support the design, implementation, and long-term operations of an advanced manufacturing and drug development facility. This cutting-edge site will integrate research and manufacturing in one location, streamlining processes for clinical trial medicines while improving efficiency and sustainability.
Initially, you will focus on automation design and project delivery as part of the Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (GPACE) team. As the site nears completion, your role will transition to ongoing operational support within the facility
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe work environment and identify opportunities to enhance safety for both personnel and equipment.
- Lead and optimize automation projects across multiple platforms.
- Provide technical expertise and leadership, ensuring automation solutions align with industry best practices.
- Support automation design and engineering phases, from conceptual development to detailed execution.
- Implement automation and integration solutions with key IT platforms and process control architectures.
- Oversee and manage project execution, working closely with contractors and internal teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical) or a related field.
- 6 years of experience in automation engineering.
- Hands-on expertise with Emerson DeltaV platform.
- Strong understanding of ISA S95 and S88 automation principles.
- Proven ability to lead and deliver automation projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Drug Substance manufacturing (Batch process experience is highly desirable).
- Background in GMP environments and validated systems.
- Familiarity with DeltaV Live and additional DCS/PLC platforms.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Additional Information:
- Standard Monday–Friday schedule
- Travel requirements: Up to 10% domestic and international travel, with opportunities for increased travel (up to 50%) and potential relocation.
