GENERAL DESCRIPTION
MEGI Engineering Inc. is a full-service engineering and construction management firm located in Portland, OR serving the pulp and paper, industrial, power, chemicals, and renewable markets.
We are currently seeking candidates with experience in the design and implementation, and support for existing and new Process Control systems including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), HMI’s, Instruments and Networking.
Responsibilities
- Develop process control solutions for a wide range of projects and operations
- Read, understand and develop P&IDs, loop sheets, schematic panel drawings, location drawings, elementaries, cable schedules and related drawings
- Design, start-up and commissioning for control systems and instrumentation including Flow, Temperature, Level, Pressure, Consistency, and Control Valves
- Specify equipment, instruments, control system components
- Review and check vendor submittals
- Provide field technical support at project sites as needed
- Meet discipline and project budgets
- Develop scopes of work and project material and labor estimates
- Develop Control System narratives
- Provide engineering effort hour and deliverables estimates
- Participate in proposal preparation and sales efforts
- Capable of handling projects individually and as part of a team - coordinate with other disciplines
- Serve as Project Discipline Lead providing technical guidance
- Ability to learn programming languages and understand control loop dynamics and tuning
- Develop and execute migration plans for legacy control system platforms
Technical Qualifications - in the following areas:
- Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) systems upgrades, modifications, and replacement
- Multiple platforms including Emerson Delta V, Honeywell Experion, Rockwell RS Logix 5000 and/or others
- Process instrumentation such as switches and transmitters for temperature, pressure, level, flow, consistency, humidity, control valves
- Signal conditioners, media converters, loop isolators, intrinsic barriers
- Understand control loop dynamics and tuning
- Network architecture and hierarchy for industrial facilities including servers, interconnectivity requirements, and structured cabling needs
- Experience with various protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, ControlNet, Ethernet/IP, and optical fiber
- Variable speed drive systems and encoders / tachometers
- NFPA codes including National Electrical Code, and ANSI/IEEE standards
General Qualifications
- B.S. in Control Systems, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, such as Pulp and Paper Technology, is desired
- P.E. registration desired
- 10 years of relevant experience
- Leadership and organizational skills are important
- Good written, verbal, and listening communication skills
- Pulp and Paper industry experience desired
- Some travel is required (approximately (5-20%)
- Must be able to occasionally travel to and work in an operating industrial plant
- Valid US Driver’s License
- Must pass drug test, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving policy
- May be required to pass a background check prior to employment
Typical duties will be performed in an office environment with occasional travel to operating facilities or construction sites. These require the ability to sit for extended periods of time, or to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance It also requires sufficient hearing, vision acuity, depth perception and the ability to remain focused on tasks. Lifting 25 pounds objects may be required.
Salary and benefits negotiable based on level of experience and the agreed responsibilities.
