What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Community Outreach position at Meharry Medical College?
The responsibilities of this position include developing outreach programs and activities for the institution that will build sustainable relationships with faith-based organizations, schools (private and public), government and business entities and the campus at large.
General Scope of Work :
Includes providing guidance and assistance to other representatives of the College regarding community participation that will serve to strengthen ties and build a network with community organizations, churches, educational institutions, health professions organizations, and other entities. Increase meeting and participation with student, faculty, and staff events and programs that requires active administrative involvement. Facilitate access to and participate in meetings with the above referenced groups to represent the college's position on campus and community outreach matters. Plan and organize promotional, business, and social events while ensuring the target audience is engaged and the College message and / or idea has been properly conveyed. Assist in the preparation of meetings and other activities that support all community efforts sponsored by the College, and others as assigned.
With respect to the above, current relationships should exist with Meharry's executive leadership and leaders of community organizations, neighborhood associations, professional organizations, educational institutions, church leadership, and others. This position requires the maintenance and enhancement of these relationships.
Responsibilities :
- Develop, implement and maintain a campus and community outreach action plan for the College that supports Meharry Medical College's interests.
- Demonstrates organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Monitor community organizations and other stakeholders.
- Strong creative problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and recommend practical solutions.
- Develop relationships where Meharry has identified as issue area(s); provide information on community changes and proposals and provide updates to the Senior Vice President and Director of Community Engagement.
- Act as the College's community liaison with all areas of the College and other relevant local and non-government external groups and organizations.
- Provide informational and educational tours for visitors to the campus.
- Prepare and / or communicate with various constituencies relative to mission and significance of the College to the neighbor and the community at large.
- Will plan implement events as part of the Community Engagement Department and others as assigned.
- Monitor events budgets and complete an evaluation to determine future needs, options, and funding.
- Work closely with key constituencies such as President's office, faculty and staff, and other offices and teams to reach goal(s) successfully.
- Ability and desire to work with various College partners, colleagues, faculty, staff and especially students.
- Responds with diplomacy and tact when interacting with customers / clients in time-sensitive and difficult situations.
- Assist in managing and directing throughout the planning process of various community events.
- Provide support in identifying and cultivating new and former opportunities to support the department and Meharry's strategic plan.
- Must have excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ensure sanitation and safety standards are upheld.
