The Financial Wellness and Debt Management Counselor is an integral position that supports the well-being of medical students. This inaugural position coordinates efforts to create a supportive and inclusive community that promotes the financial, mental and well-being of students. As a part of the college-wide student wellness initiative, the financial wellness counselor will design and implement an innovative and comprehensive financial wellness program that equips students with practical tools to address financial well-being. The counselor performs daily operations for processing financial assistance, scholarships and other financial-related programs.
- Advises students about financial aid and scholarships.
- Resolves financial aid issues. i.e. verification. Audits financial aid files, reviews financial aid reports for accuracy, and responds to financial aid inquiries.
- Performs daily operations involved with the delivery of financial assistance for perspective and enrolled students.
- Reviews and verifies student’s financial aid file/status to determine eligibility.
- Awards and certifies financial aid and scholarships to eligible students based on institutional policies and procedures. Revises student financial aid and scholarships awards based on need and eligibility.
- Develops and maintains reports required for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation on an annual basis.
- Develops programs, events, and initiatives that support financial literacy and debt management.
- Provides high quality financial aid counseling; loan repayment and public service forgiveness; and debt management services.
- Serve as an advisor and coach to individual students on personal financial matters and issues.
- Develops relationships and works closely with the office of financial aid and other key departments
- Serve as the liaison for the school of medicine between financial aid and business offices, collaborating on student account management, billings, disbursement, reconciliation, reports, and related matters.
- Develop and implement scholarship policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to scholarship distribution and ensure that funds are allocated appropriately.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
