What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Service Representative position at Meharry Medical College?
Responsible for performing multiple duties of the Intake office, including but not limited to answering the phone, monitoring the fax machine, responding to walk-ins, scheduling appointments, registering arrivals, notifying programs of admissions, receiving and preparing client information for assessment interviewers, securing and proper storage of client information.
Daily Operations
Proficient with computer software, and hardware, copier and fax machine. Familiar with substance abuse treatment. Ability to interact professionally with public, staff and clients.
Required Education And Experience
High school diploma required. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a medical, dental or behavioral health receptionist, or a similar position in a medical, dental or behavioral health office, hospital, or other health related facility. Experience with computerized registration and assessments programs; bilingual preferred.
Daily Operations
- Performs front office and other clerical duties including, but not limited to: answers phones in a courteous and professional manner; greets all patients and confirms their appointment time; directs patient/guest to appropriate areas; monitors waiting room activities for safety and cleanliness, accepts and records payments for services rendered.
- Explains walk-in and appoint procedure to prospective patients, referral sources and general public; provides limited explanation of levels of care available: Schedules all patient appointments.
- Accept, monitors and notify unit staff of personal items including cash dropped off for Residential Clients.
- Sort mail delivered into appropriate mail boxes. Returns mail of those no longer here to mail room.
- Copy Identification; record patient demographic information required for registration; create patient record; pulls or store patient records as needed; helps maintain Intake office record room.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
