The Molecular Biology technician will support ongoing research projects within Dr. Gaye’s lab in the Department of Integrative Genomics and Epidemiology at Meharry Medical College.
This lab investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiometabolic diseases, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders using genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic approaches.
The technician will assist in cellular and molecular biology experiments and tasks, including but not limited to DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, genotyping, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)
Liaise with Principal Investigator and junior researchers to conduct molecular biology experiments 70%
Publish research findings (contribute to writing, and submitting manuscripts for publication) 15%
Maintain accurate records of experiments and data in lab notebooks and electronic databases 5%
Assist with training new students and junior researchers in laboratory techniques 5%
Maintain lab inventory and order reagents, chemicals, and consumables as needed 5%

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong background in molecular and cell biology techniques, including PCR, genotyping, immunohistochemistry, and Western blotting.
- Experience working with mouse models, including sample collection and processing (preferred but not required).
- Familiarity with confocal microscopy and image analysis.
- Basic knowledge of biostatistics and data analysis software (GraphPad, ImageJ, R, or Python is a plus).
- Strong organizational and documentation skills to maintain clear, detailed records of experiments
Education and Experience:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field.
- Preferred: At least 1–2 years of laboratory experience in an academic or research setting.
- Prior experience in in-vitro and/or in-vivo, genotyping, and immunohistochemistry is a plus.
