Position Overview
The Meigs-Decatur Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is seeking a part-time Tourism Coordinator to lead and manage Meigs County’s tourism initiatives. This role is instrumental in developing and promoting tourism countywide, utilizing ARP funds awarded through a grant contract with the State of Tennessee. Funding for this position is available through September 30, 2026.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Website Management:
- Maintain and update the tourism website regularly.
Social Media Management:
- Create and manage engaging, well-written content for the Chamber’s tourism-related social media platforms.
- Develop and post reels/short videos to promote Meigs County.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement a two-year tourism strategy and branding plan, presenting the plan annually to the Tourism Committee and Board of Directors.
Community Engagement:
- Educate the community on the value and impact of tourism.
- Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and state tourism partners.
Reporting:
- Present tourism updates at county commissioner meetings as needed, alongside the Chamber President or Vice President.
- Provide monthly updates to the Board of Directors on progress, issues, and opportunities in tourism.
Marketing & Promotion:
- Create marketing materials that highlight Meigs County's key areas: Historic South Meigs, Discover Decatur, and Visit Ten Mile.
- Promote Meigs County holistically to enhance brand awareness.
Event Coordination:
- Plan and execute tourism-related events, including managing vendors, logistics, decorations, promotional materials, and advertising.
Grant Management:
- Assist in collecting, submitting, and maintaining accurate grant documentation.
Administrative Duties:
- Keep records organized for grants, payroll, and events.
- Maintain and organize the office space.
- Restock and distribute advertising materials throughout the county and surrounding areas.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
- Implement Google optimization strategies to improve online visibility, drive website traffic, and boost search rankings.
Event Attendance and Networking:
- Attend tourism-related functions, conferences, and events a few times per year to build connections and stay informed about industry trends. Reliable transportation is required (mileage reimbursed at the state rate).
General Support:
- Provide assistance to the Chamber Coordinator as needed.
Job Qualifications/Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Possess office and communication skills and the ability to work with the public.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for scheduling.
- Familiarity with creative tools like Canva and event platforms like Eventbrite.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and ability to create compelling, well-written content and visual materials.
- Moderate experience in social media management, marketing, advertising, public relations, and website domain management is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate professionally in writing with Board members, county officials, and the general public.
- Creativity and ability to produce engaging short-form video content for social media.
- Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and at events in various environments.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Additional Qualifications
- Knowledge of Meigs County and its attractions is a plus.
- Must pass a background check.
- Availability to attend meetings during daytime work hours is required, as this is a hybrid position.
Other Requirements
- Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
- Reliable transportation for attending tourism-related functions, conferences, and events (mileage reimbursed at the state rate.)
- Professional grooming and attire aligned with the organization’s mission, goals, and policies.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
