Position Summary
The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for supporting attorneys in all aspects of litigation, from case intake to trial preparation. This role requires a proactive approach, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to anticipate needs and stay ahead of deadlines. The Litigation Paralegal plays a critical role in ensuring case files are accurate, complete, and maintained to the highest standard while adhering to the firm’s core values and performance programs.
Essential Functions
Case Management Support
- Maintain and organize case files, both physical and digital, ensuring all documents are complete, accurate, and up-to-date.
- Manage calendars, deadlines, and schedules for attorney, including tracking court dates and filing deadlines.
- Assist with case intake and client onboarding processes.
Legal Research and Writing
- Conduct legal research using online and physical resources to support case preparation.
- Draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, contracts, discovery requests, and responses.
- Summarize case files, depositions, and trial transcripts.
Trial and Litigation Support
- Prepare trial exhibits, evidence, and presentations for court proceedings.
- Assist in trial preparation by organizing materials and coordinating logistics.
- Support attorney during depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials.
Client and Witness Interaction
- Communicate with clients to gather necessary information and provide case updates.
- Coordinate with witnesses, experts, and other third parties for depositions or trial appearances.
Discovery Management
- Assist with drafting, organizing, and responding to discovery requests.
- Review and analyze documents for relevance and privilege.
Administrative Support
- File legal documents with courts and agencies, ensuring compliance with filing requirements.
- Answer phones and schedule appointments.
- Perform general administrative tasks such as filing, copying, and managing correspondence.
Compliance and Confidentiality
- Ensure adherence to legal and ethical standards, including maintaining client confidentiality.
- Stay current on changes to laws, regulations, and legal practices relevant to the firm’s areas of practice.
Document Management
- Organize and maintain large volumes of documents, ensuring proper indexing and accessibility.
- Manage electronic discovery (eDiscovery) and data for litigation purposes.
- Adhere to firm performance programs such as key performance indicators (KPIs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
