CULTURE:
MA: To include but not limited to a certified medical assistant preforming under their certification, or CNA, NA, or EMT working in accordance to the Rule 800 law. The MA will assist the Providers with caring for patients, such as preparing the patient for exams and procedures, completing referral forms, conducting call backs to patients, communicating with pharmacies, etc. The LPN will be responsible for duties such as providing some patient education, completing physical forms, providing referral arrangements, and scheduling outpatient testing. The MA may also be assigned duties to help providers with annual wellness visits, completing nurse visits, or medication room management.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

- and the culture and objectives of MMH. All employees are expected to work as needed in providing health and wellness services in the community.
- The MA assists the Provider with patients, including preparing patients and the examination rooms; taking initial medical history for the chart, taking vital signs, making lab and x-ray appointments, and explaining the preparations to the patients. In addition, assists the Physician in all special procedures, as required. This position will promptly intervene with appropriate action in an emergency. Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
- The MA carries out physician/provider orders. This position handles phone calls as directed by the physician, such as calling in prescriptions, and notifies patients of diagnostic testing results. This incumbent gives injections and medications prescribed by the physician.
- The MA is responsible for some patient education, completing physical forms and referral arrangements, and assists in maintaining a large volume and variety of medical records in accordance to office procedures.
- The MA must be able to incorporate observation and assessment skills and differentiate between critical and non-critical patient conditions to initiate appropriate procedures.
- The MA is responsible for proper handling and storage of all medications stored in the office.
- Performs office testing such as spirometry, tympanometry pulse oximetry, and office lab procedures.
- The MA is responsible for keeping exam rooms clean and properly stocked with supplies. Demonstrates proper handling and storage of all medications stored in the clinic.
- Cleaning and sterilization of instruments and equipment, as trained and requested.
- Works and communicates cooperatively with team members to identify and complete responsibilities and meet department goals. Participates in department activities to improve patient care systems, shares new information with all team members, attends team meetings, and effectively orients/mentors’ new staff as requested.
- Maintains current knowledge and skills applicable to job assignment through continuing education or professional organization.
- Follows all procedures and policies and demonstrates competency and proficiency as required.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Continuous learning in both personal and professional development. Consistent review, comprehension and reply of company email and related correspondence.
- To include additional tasks or other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- MINIMUM:
- Education/Experience:
- Must possess a certification of the above identified entities or graduate from accredited medical assistant program.
- Must be familiar in the use of equipment used in the physician’s office.
- One year of previous experience in a physician’s office or medical environment is preferred, will consider the right candidate who successfully graduates from an above specified program or with specified licensures.
- Must successfully complete a healthcare provider BLS course.
Technical Skills:
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
- Must have the visual and auditoria ability to assess patient conditions, the ability to input patient assessment and vital data into EMR, and the ability to verbally communicate with patients, staff, physician and families.
Other qualifications/certificate/license:
- Requires current registration as a licensed practical nurse in the State of Colorado, current BLS certification.

- Bilingual preferred but not required.

MELISSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL:
Melissa Memorial Hospital is a 15-bed critical access hospital, located in Holyoke, Colorado. While being “rural” we are equipped for any situation. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, ECHO, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general & orthopedic surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.
