CULTURE:

To create and maintain an environment conducive to the provision of the highest quality patient care, while serving the needs of the patients and providers with the highest level of customer service. Coordinates with: Materials Management,  Maintenance, personnel, Specialty Clinic, Physicians, RNs, Hospital CS/ sterilizing personnel, Steris representative

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgeon.

• Promote the mission, vision and values of the organization.
• Function as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by:
• Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure;
• Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure;
• Performing accounting procedures in concerns with the RN circulator;
• Assisting with placement of sterile drapes;
• Providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure;
• Maintaining an organized sterile field;
• Ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed; and
• Preparing sterile dressings.                                                                                                 
• Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
• Assist with post-procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
• Participate in ongoing education and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities.
• Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.

        Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Physically demanding, high-stress environment
• Exposure to blood, sharp instruments and other devices, body fluids and tissue, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation and repetitive motions
• Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
• Manual and finger dexterity
• Hand and eye coordination
• Standing and walking for extensive periods of time
• Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range
• Working under stressful conditions
• Working irregular hours

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

       MINIMUM:

• High School Diploma or GED
• CPR/BLS certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), and or at least 2 years experience in the surgical scrub technician role
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multitask in a busy surgical environment
• Basic computer competency
• Personal time management skills
• Strong detail orientation
• Experience with AORN/AAMI standards and recommended practices

MELISSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL:

Melissa Memorial Hospital is a 15-bed critical access hospital, located in Holyoke, Colorado. While being “rural” we are equipped for any situation. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, ECHO, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general & orthopedic surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.
