Coffee Roaster/Delivery Driver

Mellelo Coffee Roasters is now hiring a Roaster Apprentice/Delivery Driver in Central Point Oregon.

We are growing! This is an opportunity to join our small, driven team. This position is 32-40 hours per week, depending on workload. In this role, you will assist with coffee roasting and production duties, such as bagging and labeling of retail and bulk coffee. You will coordinate daily with the head roaster on production needs and be expected to have a high level of autonomy and flexible schedule. Help with taking and delivering orders. Responsibilities:

• Assist lead roaster with roasting and general coffee production needs.
• Perform all functions of coffee production team including bagging, labeling of coffee bags, and shipments, as needed.
• Receive new coffee orders and perform green coffee inventory.
• Clean and routine maintenance of roasting equipment.
• Regularly evaluate roasts ensure quality and accurate flavor profiles through coffee cuppings.
• Deliver to local customers.
• Work special events, such as local events and grocery store demos.
• Take regular inventory of warehouse items.
• Safely operator machinery and maintain and clean and tidy roasting environment.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Passion for specialty coffee.
• Attention to detail – following and logging a roast curve for each roast.
• Must have strong communication skills and work well within a team.
• Ability to evaluate coffee flavor objectively and escalate any defects.
• Excellent organizational skills with a clear, strong ability to prioritize and work efficiently.
• General computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years or older.
• 2 years’ experience in specialty coffee industry, roasting experience preferred but not required.
• Experience leading coffee cuppings and evaluating coffee profiles a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Work requires repetitive standing, stooping, bending at the waist and carrying heavy items.
• Exposure to production environment, including moderate noise and heat levels; ability to hear verbal directions, alarms and telephone in a noisy environment required.
• Ability to stand on feet for 8 hours.
• Ability to move heavy bags of green coffee, approximately 150lbs; ability to repeatedly lift up to 50lbs unassisted.
• Ability to drive a Ford Econoline van without assistance for up to 8 hours a day.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
