SUMMARY
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building relationships with potential clients, and driving the overall growth strategy of the company. This role involves both strategic planning and hands-on execution in developing new markets, channels, and partnerships. The BDM will work closely with sales, marketing, and product teams to ensure alignment and maximize business impact.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from business directories, industry ads, trade shows, websites, networking and other sources
- Directs and supervises sales activities, making sales calls, presentations on all Melling Engine Parts product lines including development of new products
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of leads to achieve business growth goals
- Monitor and grow the sales and market share of the company product lines
- Travel requires domestic and overseas locations to work with current customers and develop prospective customers presenting company programs and products
- Work with manufacturing management and account management to develop price strategies
- Displays or demonstrates product, using samples or catalog, and emphasizes the features and benefits of Melling products
- Conduct market research to identify industry trends, competitive landscapes, and potential areas for expansion
- Quotes prices and credit terms, prepares and negotiates sales contracts in coordination with internal staff
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create content and campaigns that align with business development efforts
- Work closely with the product team to ensure alignment with customer needs.
- Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own company's production and delivery schedules
- Routinely communicates with customers (written, verbal and/or e-mail) to keep our customers and prospective customers apprised of new products, applications and technology from Melling
- Coordinates liaison between sales department and General Manager of Melling locations
- Prepares periodic sales reports showing volume and potential sales
- Provides detailed reports on specific market areas and results of customer visits as required
- Enters new customer data and other sales data for current customers into database
- Maintains current competitor profiles and advises management of competitor activities
- Knowledgeable of and supports Human Resource, Quality and Safety/Environmental policies & practices. Strives for continuous improvement in their area of expertise and job function that results in better cost, quality, or functionality of the products we deliver to our customers
- Promote good employee relations and high morale
- Demonstrate teamwork and respect by working constructively with co-workers to achieve the best results possible
- All other duties assigned by the supervisor or department manager

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing or a related field.
- Proven experience (typically 7-10 years) in business development, sales, or a related role in industry.
