Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
About the Job
This position involves evaluating, developing, and implementing specific treatment programs for individual patients based on physical therapy principles and practices. The therapist will be educated in assessing and treating patients across various age groups to help them achieve maximum functional outcomes using therapeutic exercises, activities, modalities, and skills.
The therapist will supervise staff therapists and senior therapists, responsible for program planning to provide efficient and quality therapy services. This role also involves training staff therapists and senior therapists, coordinating clinics, monitoring referrals, and handling a patient caseload.
The therapist must document all age-appropriate patient care treatments in the medical record to comply with departmental, organizational, and JCAHO requirements. Additionally, the staff member will act as a liaison with other disciplines for problem-solving issues related to clinical therapy services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Graduation from an approved school of Physical Therapy
- Physical Therapy (PT) License
- Three (3) years of clinical experience with one year in an acute care setting
- American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Membership or specialty equivalent
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and may not be an exhaustive list.
- Performs more complex duties of a staff therapist, assessing, re-assessing, and treating patients with varying diagnoses while maintaining a high level of professional competence and efficiency.
- Evaluates and treats patients across different age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and the general population.
- Develops treatment plans to address patient pain and helps patients attain maximum functional outcomes.
- Sets realistic short-term and long-term goals and plans of care related to patients' physical therapy needs within the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary systems.
- Prepares the department for JCAHO surveys and participates in CQI activities.
- Attends intra-departmental rounds, team meetings, and case conferences.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, patients, and their families to promote patient safety and independence in discharge planning.
- Oversees section/unit activities regarding services provided, evaluates these services to maintain regulatory standards of quality and performance, and keeps up-to-date with new techniques and interventions.
- Acts as a clinical bridge between therapists within inpatient/outpatient settings, adult/pediatrics, PT, and OT, etc.
- Accepts additional tasks and responsibilities, including orientation of new staff, participation on committees, involvement in QI activities, supervision of students and aides, and involvement in developing/revising practice standards.
