Job Summary
The prep cook will assist in preparing, organizing, and maintaining ingredients for cooking and food preparation. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions, and the ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare vegetables, fruits, meats, and other ingredients as directed by the chef or kitchen manager.
- Clean, peel, chop, and slice ingredients to specified standards.
- Measure, portion, and store ingredients according to recipes and kitchen procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, ensuring that all food items are stored safely and within guidelines.
- Assist cooks and chefs with various tasks, including prepping dishes, cooking, or plating food.
- Help monitor ingredient inventory, ensure supplies are ordered, and assist in stock rotation.
- Follow all safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Work closely with kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient service.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of kitchen equipment and utensils.
- A key requirement for this role is punctuality, including showing up on time for scheduled shifts, ready to work, and adhering to all rest and meal break standards as well as the company's attendance policy.
Skills/Specialized Knowledge
- Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
- Ability to follow directions and recipes precisely.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Basic food safety knowledge (e.g., handling raw foods, cleanliness).
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma and/or GED required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Riverside County Food Handler's certification throughout employment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Capable of lifting and moving heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Manual dexterity to operate kitchen tools and equipment.
- Ability to work in hot, noisy, and busy environments.
