What are the responsibilities and job description for the Monday friday position at Melwood?
Responsible for roads and grounds maintenance contract operations, to include financial management, direct supervision and training of personnel.
Oversees the full range performance of general and varied grounds maintenance, landscaping, snow removal and outside facility maintenance duties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures that a safe and efficient Roads and Grounds operations are maintained round-the-clock 24 / 7 / 365 and a quality product is
delivered to the United States Army, Fort George G. Meade.
Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of products and suggests changes in
working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of crews.
Maintains contact with the Roads & Ground Manager to ensure the work is being performed per contract specifications and to keep
he / she informed of any problems or schedule changes.
- Responsible for fiscal management of labor, supplies, equipment and other direct line items of contracts assigned.
- Reviews security, marking, care and proper use of supplies, equipment, and vehicles as part of the regularly scheduled inspection process.
- Exercises direct supervision of Snow Removal operations. Manages all subcontractor snow removal support services along with
reporting required status reports to the United States Government throughout the snow event.
- Responsible for ensuring that all applicable staff properly maintain and keep an updated inventory of their assigned equipment.
- Maintains the MD Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, MD Fertilizer / Nutrient Management License, MD Licensed Certified Tree Expert Certification, National Recreation and Park Association's Certified Playground Safety Inspector, Meade 40-hour HAZMAT Certification & the International Society of Arboriculture’s Certified Arborist Certification.
EDUCATION
Associate’s or vocational / technical school degree in Horticulture, Biology, Botany, Agronomy or related field
Certifications Required :
Maryland Licensed Certified Tree Expert required within 15 months of employment.
Maryland Commercial Pesticide Applicator License required within 15 months of employment.
Maryland Fertilizer / Plant Nutrient Applicator License required within 15 months of employment.
International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist Certification within 15 months of employment.
National Recreation and Park Association's Certified Playground Safety Inspector within 15 months of employment
SOFTWARE
Microsoft Office Site- Excel, Outlook, Word. Basic computer and internet proficiency. Experience with Maximo preferred.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
The Roads & Grounds Supervisor manages the Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead, Heavy Equipment Operators, Heavy Truck Drivers, and other assigned laborers.
Direct authority to make decisions on one or more of the following : employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases;
conduct employee performance evaluations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The incumbent is supervised by the Roads & Grounds Manager.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
The incumbent must be able to stand / walk 50% and sit 50% of the work time to inspect grounds properly, check equipment, and complete paperwork.
They must be alert to safety hazards and have a method of communicating with staff, workers, counselors, etc. Seeing and depth perception are required as tasks include driving and inspecting.
