CONSUMER LOAN OFFICER I

Pay Grade 8/Non-Exempt

Reports to: Branch Leader


The primary purpose of this position is to assist Members First Credit Union to deliver on its mission, vision, and brand promise. You will do this by living out our core values in every service contact to both internal and external members. Essential Duties

  • Loan Authority Limits Secured 50k and Unsecured 10k
  • Provide high-level member service, addressing member inquiries with loans, new accounts, and other credit union products
  • Review loan applications with members to verify credit information, personal financial information and documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Calculate debt ratios on applicant information
  • Create opportunities for expanded member relationships by determining member needs for additional products and services, including and not limited to new personal checking and savings accounts
  • Approve loan requests for members who meet loan qualifications, or refer applications to the appropriate level as per the loan policy
  • Meet with members to deny the loan applications and prepare an adverse action letters as required by law for loan requests that do not fall within current lending guidelines
  • Utilize Financial Coaching Certification with members upon request and when making recommendations of options
  • Prepare and verify for accuracy all documents pertaining to the loan
  • Secure all documents and signatures to perfect any liens, notes, and security agreements
  • Obtain proof of income from the member(s) when there is no current substantiation of income in file
  • Obtain proof of insurance on collateral, when applicable
  • Ensure that payment options have been discussed, documented, and administered
  • The ability to attain State of Michigan Credit Producers License within 6 months of starting the position
  • This position is an in branch/office role, must be available to work 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. M-F, Saturday coverage as needed, and some outside of normal working hours for meetings and/or education/trainings
  • Successfully obtain Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) designation through America's Credit Unions within first year of service with M1

  • Meet with members to assist with loan applications, personal checking, and savings accounts, ensuring accurate guidance on required documentation and a clear explanation of the processing timeline.
  • Provide members with a total payment quote that includes the Protection Solutions package, and educate them on the available Protection Solutions options.
  • Successfully use effective Referral Sales Champion skills, behaviors, and product knowledge for member journey enhancement
  • Actively participate in Credit Union initiatives, promotions, and achieve assigned Measures of Success goals
  • Successfully onboard new members and loans utilizing our process that continues to build relationships and bring members JOY
  • Participate and engage in monthly developmental coaching

Other

  • Attend educational functions as required
  • A good working knowledge of all State and Federal laws governing the loan process
  • Maintain certification of FICEP
  • Other duties that may be assigned from time to time

  • Maintain good knowledge of all State and Federal laws governing credit union operations (BSA, Patriot Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Truth in Savings, Truth in Lending, etc.)
  • Implement new procedures efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to work overtime, attend meetings, seminars and travel
  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and /or outside the organization generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information, which may require some discussion
  • Effectively apply and maintain financial counseling concepts, gained through America's Credit Unions' Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP), to promote financial well-being

  • Ability to move or transport up to 25 pounds
  • Able to remain stationary for 2-4 hours at a time

Work Environment

  • Must maintain a neat and orderly work area.
  • Routinely clean and disinfect work areas (i.e. teller stations, desk surfaces, phones, electronic equipment).
  • Protect the confidentiality of credit union staff and members by locking door or removing items from desk/workstation when away.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum high school graduate or equivalent
  • One to three years similar or related experience
  • A working knowledge of loan processing and credit analysis
  • The ability to attain State of Michigan Credit Producers License within 6 months of starting the position
  • The ability to attain the Financial Counselor Certification (CCUFC) through CUNA within the first 6 months
  • Skills in Microsoft 365 Suite

Experience

Required
  • A working knowledge of loan processing and credit analysis
  • 1 - 3 years: One to three years of similar or related experience.

Education

Required
  • High School or better
