INTERNAL AUDIT INTERN

Non-Exempt

Reports to:   Internal Audit Manager

Position Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to assist Members First Credit Union to deliver on its mission: To encourage a better tomorrow. Essential Duties

  • Provide administrative support to internal audit department.
  • Provide assistance in the performance of an internal audit program designed to safeguard credit union assets.
    • Perform and document audit procedures and findings
    • Interact with other departments in the organization
    • Analyze and recommend changes in internal audit controls
  • Assist in the completion of special audit projects as assigned by the supervisory committee and/or CEO
  • Obtain knowledge of applicable State and Federal Laws and Industry Regulations in order to assist management in ensuring the Credit Union's policies and procedures remain compliant and adhered to in all areas while performing assigned audits.
    • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of policies, procedures and regulation interpretation regarding the audit process and requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve member and internal inquiries in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Provide informed, professional, accurate service and support to all members and employees.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administrative support to internal audit department.
    • Update audit programs
    • Facilitate completion of data requests for audits
    • Perform any necessary clerical task for the Internal Audit Team, including but not limited to making copies, scanning and emailing information, pulling documents, etc., as needed
  • Assists with the audits of the Credit Union’s activities to safeguard the adequacy and effectiveness of the internal control systems and compliance with existing policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Responsible for completing audits as assigned by the internal auditor.
  • Gather and analyze data, and document audit results.
  • Responsible for interviewing credit union staff as needed to gather relevant information to complete assignments.
  • Routinely advise the Internal Audit Manager concerning key issues affecting assigned audits and progress of internal audit activities.
  • Complete branch audits at multiple branch locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a continually changing environment.
  • Desire to attain an in-depth understanding of the credit union functions and processes.
  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and /or outside the organization generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information, which may require some discussion.

  • Ability to move or transport up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to remain stationary for 2-4 hours at a time.

 

Work Environment

  • Must maintain a neat and orderly work area.
  • Routinely clean and disinfect work areas (i.e. teller stations, desk surfaces, phones, electronic equipment).
  • Protect the confidentiality of credit union staff and members by locking door or removing items from desk/workstation when away.

 

Education and Experience

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field required. Completion of two years of College coursework preferred.
  • Six-month’s experience in Accounting or Banking related field, preferred.
  • Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
