REPORTS TO: Lead Teacher, Building Principal and/or Director of Student Support Services
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
ABA Technicians (ABA Techs) are an integral part of the teaching and learning team. ABA Techs are assigned to special education classes and support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). ABA Techs take direction from the special educator and work in collaboration with classroom teachers and related service providers.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
--Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis
--Collects data during discrete trial training and/or as directed by the lead teacher
--Provides data for on-going progress monitoring in collaboration with the lead teacher of student achievement toward individualized goals and objectives
--Collaborates with lead teacher to maintain targeted teaching programs
--Ensures data book and necessary instructional materials are current
--Implements individualized student behavior support plans as directed by the lead teacher
--Fulfills all requirements in preparation for clinic reviews with the lead teacher and behavior specialist
--Collaborates effectively with the lead teacher and general education teacher regarding student performance, behavior plans, curriculum modifications, accommodations and social skills as needed.
--Establishes rapport and maintains student behavior through positive praise for preferred responses and neutral affect during redirection
--Respects all students and provides individual assistance when needed
--Utilizes strategies which promote student independence
--Models effective learning skills, work habits, and behavior for students
--Works effectively as team member
--Seeks help or advice from appropriate staff as needed
--Maintains a positive attitude and relationship with staff
--Accepts suggestions and corrective feedback in a positive manner
--Communicates with the special educator and/or classroom teacher about any concerns/difficulties/issues incurred by students.
--Participates in professional development ABA technician training
--Respects the confidentiality of each student’s learning profile
--Other responsibilities delineated by the building Principal as atypical circumstances arise
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred qualifications include possession of a bachelor’s degree and/or teaching or related experience using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.
EVALUATION OF PERFORMANCE, TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND SALARY:
Evaluation process and procedures, terms of employment and salary are consistent with the Agreement Between the Mendon-Upton Regional School District and the SEIU Local 888.
