JOB SUMMARY
Manage and provide research/policy development support for Governmental Relations efforts at the local, state and federal level. Research grant funding opportunities and develop proposals. Represent Memorial Healthcare in stakeholder engagement and special projects efforts which raise the profile of the organization and afford opportunities for further service delivery.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advocacy & Government Relations
- Research and identify opportunities for engagement in the public policy arena while managing ongoing advocacy priorities.
- Participate in legislative hearings, policy forums and other policy development events.
- Manage casework related to payer and regulatory matters under direction of AVP of Advocacy/Govt. Relations.
- Coordinate advocacy efforts related to development of hospital cohort and resulting coordinated agenda.
- Represent AVP of Advocacy/Govt. Relations at state association board and subcommittee meetings as necessary.
- Represent MHC as needed within statewide healthcare nonprofit associations through regular attendance and participation in forums, legislative updates and other events.
- Coordinate AVP and stakeholder logistics related to ongoing advocacy outreach in furtherance of organizational goals and objectives.
- General administrative duties as assigned.
- Grant Writing
- Identify and research funding opportunities from government agencies, private foundations and other sources to support hospital programs and initiatives.
- Prepare prospective grant proposals with contextual background to allow for informed consideration by Memorial Healthcare executive and governance leadership.
- Manage the grant application process across varied platforms.
- Administer awarded grants including budget management, compliance reporting and evaluation as necessary.
- Cultivate relationships with grantors and partners to foster ongoing support and consideration.
- Coordinate with MHC Business Development to ensure maximum public relations focus and community awareness of grant initiatives.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Facilitation
- Execute stakeholder engagement strategies related to partnerships and initiatives at direction of AVP of Advocacy/Govt. Relations.
- Plan and execute campus visits, roundtables and other events in furtherance of stakeholder engagement initiatives.
Qualifications

- Participates in continuous self-development, formal and informal, by maintaining a current knowledge and active interest in healthcare issues and practices, as well as attending educational offerings and reading professional literature, etc.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Proficient in Windows Office to include Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
EXPERIENCE:
- 7 years of experience in state and local government relations preferred, with established relationships with state and federal elected and administrative officials.
- Prior experience in development and execution of healthcare-related public policy is preferred. Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Primary work location will be Lansing with travel to Memorial’s Owosso campus and other served communities throughout mid-Michigan as necessary.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to travel independently within and outside of the hospital.
- Requires some standing, reaching, stooping, and lifting.
- May be required to push/pull/carry items between 20-100 pounds.

ESSENTIAL TECHICAL/ MOTOR SKILLS:
- Hand-eye coordination for use of computer, teaching tools, etc.
- Ability to utilize audiovisual aids (slide projectors, overhead projectors, TV/VCR, resuscitation manikins, etc.)
