JOB SUMMARY
Functions as the surgery scheduling coordinator for the department. Performs clerical activities and schedules procedures according to established guidelines. Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience. Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS : EDUCATION :
Associates degree preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required. Requires level of education necessary to read and understand physicians' orders, to chart vital signs, and other information on patient's chart. Medical terminology knowledge or classroom training required.
EXPERIENCE :
One (1) year comparable experience working in a healthcare environment required. Medical Assistant experience preferred. Knowledge of general office procedures and professional protocols. Proficiency with modern office equipment including but not limited to computer and telephone systems.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Schedule patients for surgery at physician request.
- Obtain prior authorization from insurance companies.
- Review consent forms with patient and obtain signature on forms.
- Obtain medical clearance from primary care physician when needed.
- Schedule pre-op testing with Memorial Healthcare.
- Answer telephone calls pertaining to surgery and communicating with surgeons regarding patient questions / concerns.
- Attends in-service education programs as assigned, and maintains mandatory competencies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
