Key Responsibilities of the CFO
- Actively participate with the Board of Trustees and System Leadership Team in setting the strategic direction for the hospital.
- Maintain accountability to the CEO for the financial results of the hospital, physician organization, foundation and real estate holdings.
- Produce monthly internal financial statements for Board of Trustees – ensuring integrity, accuracy and timely preparation om accordance with the requirements of internal/external and governmental constituencies.
- Direct and oversee all financial activities, tax returns, and reports for government regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with CEO, Board of Trustees and investment bankers to establish and monitor a long-term debt plan to maintain adequate coverage of all related debt covenants.
- Lead budgeting efforts to ensure that organizational processes are efficient, effective and integrated; work with clinical and operational leaders, as needed. Provide variance analysis education and support to operations and clinical leaders and others, as appropriate.
- Use best practice processes for budgeting, financial planning, capital planning and capital investment decision making and reporting.
- Coordination of the external audit of the system, retirement plans and other audit services.
- Oversee revenue recognition for the system.
- Oversight of the Revenue Integrity team in establishing annual departmental charge increases per the charge description master (CDM).
- Work closely with other leaders to address revenue cycle issues, work redesign and overall performance.
- Oversee preparation of cost reports for Medicare and Medicaid as well as all supporting schedules.
- Manage and track the performance of the organization’s investments in compliance with the policies and investment guidelines established by the Board of Trustees and Ohio Revised Code.
- Keep abreast and ensure compliance with directives issued by governmental and regulatory agencies or third-party payors.
- Co-manage payor contracting for both hospital and provider services.
- Support operational excellence through the identification of cost containment and operational initiatives on an ongoing basis.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience and at least 7 years of leadership experience with a track record of success in significant roles of progressive responsibility.
- Successful experience as a CFO or strong number two in a successful, complex health system.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting with Master’s degree in Business Administration or CPA.
- Experience in the areas of finance, managed care contracting, treasury management, revenue cycle operations, business operations, strategic planning and board presentations.
- Experience in developing operating and capital budgets.
- Strong sense of mission and an active, engaged leadership style.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to partner with executive and system leadership in strategic and tactical planning and implementation.
- Technically savvy with strong quantitative and analytical acumen.
