Overview
The Respiratory Care Technician II is responsible for initiating, maintaining, and discontinuing basic respiratory therapy equipment and techniques for patients with cardio-pulmonary disorders. This role involves administering prescribed respiratory care procedures to patients of all ages.
Qualifications
Education : Graduate of AMA approved School of Respiratory Care, preferred, or 2nd year student in final clinical semesters of Associates Degree program, required.
Licensure / Certification / Registry : Current CPR certification, required.
Experience : Completion of 1st year of Respiratory Care Associate's Degree program with associated clinical rotation experience.
Other Knowledge / Skills / Abilities : Current BLS certification required.
Responsibilities
Ensuring proper cleaning and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment.
Preparing and testing respiratory therapy equipment for proper and safe operation, and performing routine service and checks on equipment in use.
Following safety rules and special instructions to prevent the spread of infection.
Receiving, verifying, and processing all necessary documentation for correct orders.
Documenting patient oxygen use for charging purposes and changing humidifiers and aerosol generators according to department policy.
Performing emergency rounds as per department policy and distributing E-cylinders of oxygen to designated gas stations.
Measuring and administering prescribed medications to patients, as well as administering various therapies.
Assessing patients' conditions and response to therapy, and recognizing signs of cardiopulmonary distress.
Modifying therapy to deal with adverse patient response and recording procedures and patient response in appropriate documentation.
Participating in in-services, continuing education, and other staff development activities, and performing CPR procedures as part of the Stat Code Team.
Keeping patient information confidential and following infection control policies.
Performing all duties under supervision of Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Performing other related duties as assigned or requested.
