Overview
Join our team as a Vascular Technician, where you will play a critical role in evaluating the anatomy and pathophysiology of the heart and great vessels using diagnostic ultrasound techniques. You will perform a wide range of procedures including Adult and Pediatric Transthoracic Echocardiograms, Stress Echo (Treadmill, Dobutamine, and Valvular), and Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE). Your expertise will be pivotal in processing images and reports through PACS and electronic reporting applications, and you will also be involved in specialty imaging, cardiac catheterization labs, and cardiovascular surgical procedures. By engaging with sonographer teams, physicians, families, and patients, you will help create an exceptional patient experience, while supporting laboratory operations through accreditation, quality assurance, education, and lab development projects. Qualifications
- Education : Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Program.
- Licensure / Certification / Registry : Must be registry eligible at the time of hire / transfer.
- Registry Pending : New graduate sonographer until active ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) in Cardiac RDCS or Cardiac credentials from CCI (Cardiac Credentialing International) registry are passed (max time 6 months).
- CPR certification required within 90 days from hire / transfer date.
- Experience : New Graduate - 1 year. Graduate of an Accredited School for Radiologic Technologist is required; graduate of an Accredited Ultrasound Program is preferred.
- Other Knowledge / Skills / Abilities : Ability to lift and move patients and heavy equipment. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities
Gather relevant patient history, physical examination details, and supporting clinical data to aid in diagnostic outcomes.Perform cardiac ultrasound diagnostic and therapeutic procedures across all patient age groups by producing, assessing, and analyzing ultrasound images and data adhering to established standards.Provide interpreting physicians with comprehensive oral or written summaries of technical findings.Maintain and enhance technical skills related to all ultrasound imaging factors and stay updated with other testing modalities.Demonstrate knowledge in gross and sectional anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology to effectively image and evaluate both normal and abnormal tissue structures.Understand the biological effects of ultrasound for safe application.Follow established behavioral standards and infection control procedures as per department guidelines.Ensure thorough documentation, confidentiality, and transmission of patient information, while developing skills in digital imaging and information practices.Monitor equipment and supply conditions to promote safe and efficient operations.Comply with departmental policies regarding incident reports involving employees and patients.Engage in continuing education, laboratory accreditation, and quality review processes.Stay current with clinical developments in ultrasound imaging and prioritize continual learning.Maintain ARDMS or CCI credentials through documented continuing education.Organize daily activities to maintain laboratory operations, including equipment management, data entry, and system administration functions.Adhere to SMH policy directives and procedures while performing duties.Exemplify professionalism, teamwork, and patient advocacy to inspire laboratory staff.Demonstrate leadership to assist the team in achieving departmental and organizational strategic goals.Performance Criteria (Cardiac)
Enhance skills and knowledge in transthoracic echocardiography for adult patients.Expand expertise in transesophageal echocardiography within standard settings, surgical suites, and catheter labs.Strengthen skills in stress echocardiography procedures.Broaden skills in the application of echocardiography for interventional procedures.Gain proficiency in transthoracic echocardiography for pediatric, neonatal, and fetal populations.Acquire knowledge of other cardiac diagnostic testing modalities.Enhance understanding of ultrasound contrast agents and their applications.Recognize critical pathology and suggest modifications to scan protocols and ancillary testing.Exhibit leadership in the clinical application of echocardiography.This job description offers a representative overview of the responsibilities associated with the Vascular Technician role, and you may be asked to perform other tasks as needed.
