What You'll Do:
Manages and develops the Coding team which includes: Facility Coding, Professional Fee (Pro-Fee) Coding, Charge Capture, Inpatient CDI and OP CDI. Provides expert knowledge and analysis of payer and coding rules as well as regulations for both hospital and physician coding. Actively participates in management of coding related denials. Coordinates routinely with Inpatient and Outpatient Clinical Documentation (CDI) nurses, to assist with functions critical to supporting timely reviews, timely appeals, accurate coding and charge capture requirements.
Manages the Coding team including but not limited to: hiring, training, managing and evaluating team performance and conducting professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of the Coding team meet and support the overall operational goals of the department and institution. Designs, develops and executes standard policies and procedures, standardized queries and strategies targeted to improve the quality of documentation and overall quality and financial performance of Memorial Health. Ensures all appeals are completed timely and that appropriate clinical evidence and coding clinic information is submitted. Arranges for necessary knowledge-based resources required by the Coding team to meet quality and productivity standards. Performs productivity and data quality reviews to ensure staff adhere to official coding and charging guidelines as well as policies and procedures; educates and advises staff on proper code selection, documentation, or codes that do not conform to approved coding guidelines; identifies patterns of improper coding and/or charging; researches and resolves problems and issues; monitors and reports daily on “Discharges Not Final Coded” (DNFC) and adjusts schedules and workload accordingly; establishes and monitors productivity and quality standards for the coding and charge capture areas; develops and updates coding and charge capture policies and procedures; reviews and monitors current work practices to identify areas for process improvement; works with department director to address staff issues, interviewing and hiring of employees, and reports all recommendations.
What You'll Bring:
Registered Health Information Administrator or Registered Health Information Technician credential required. Certified Coding Specialist credential preferred. Maintenance of registered status certification is required. Maintenance of coding certification(s) is required.
