  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in Hemodialysis is responsible for administering supportive care to patients receiving hemodialysis treatments in an efficient, safe, and courteous manner using proper procedures within their scope of practice. The technician must have a basic knowledge of ESRD and its treatment. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age, growth and development of the patients served. The dialysis technician must also have the ability to gather data reflective of the patient’s status and relay to the professional nurse the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her needs, and then provide the care needed as described in the hospital policies and procedures. The PCT is accountable to the Director of Dialysis Services and works as a team member with RN’s. The PCT is responsible for reporting to the RN the patient’s clinical information. Individuals hired for this position that are not Certified Patient Care Technicians will undergo an 8 week training course for the fundamentals of the job. The individual will be expected to acquire national certification no sooner than 1 year after date of hire and prior to 12 months after date of hire as required by federal regulations. During the training period and prior to acquiring the PCT certification the employee will be paid at the market value competitive wage for their highest licensure or certificate. If the employee fails to acquire certification within the 12 months their job will be forfeit until the certification is acquired.
  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education:
      • High School Diploma or equivalent. Emergency Medical Technician I license. REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Current EMT I license issued by the State of Wyoming and/or Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire National recognized PCT certification within 12 months of hire. Training & Experience: One (1) year work of appropriate and comparable health care experience or EMT preferred. Prior knowledge of ESRD preferred. Knowledge of aseptic technique preferred.

    • Job Knowledge and Skills:
      • Delivery of care as directed using the nursing process to ESRD patients. Maintain knowledge of the patient’s status during the dialysis treatment and work with the healthcare team to adjust and optimize care. Assist in the development of the patient plan of care on admission and revisions as needed based on ESRD patient care standards. Communicates abnormal findings and provides progress reports on patient status to appropriate RN and assures that orders are carried out. Assure that all documentation is timely and complete, including treatment notes. Assist physician, implement procedures, provides progress reports on patient status. Maintain competency in all dialysis related procedures and equipment. Exhibit a cooperative and customer service attitude towards patients, other departments, and peers. Demonstrate a commitment to positive quality outcomes through knowledge and practice of performance improvement techniques and applications. Demonstrate good time management skills. Completes incident/error reporting through Midas (or appropriate program) in a timely manner. Maintains patient and peer privacy and confidentiality. Implements treatment of any dialysis complications under the supervision of the RN on duty Operates equipment and performs job related duties in a safe manner to prevent accidents. Assists in the maintenance and testing of equipment in the dialysis unit. Assures that supplies and stocks are rotated and replaced as used using FIFO process.
