JOB SUMMARY

The Infection Prevention Coordinator is identified by Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County as being the position that is responsible for the infection prevention and control program. This position has the clinical authority over this program. This position is responsible for the daily management of infection prevention and control activities. The Infection Prevention Coordinator is responsible for the identification, investigation, reporting and control of nosocomial infections among patients and personnel. This position is responsible for the following: Performing outreach, follow-up, coordination of post discharge care for patients with positive cultures. Educating and communicating with patients regarding nosocomial infection prevention and treatment options. Assisting with some or all of the following functional areas: performance improvement and quality measures related to infection control and prevention, Joint Commission accreditation, physician peer review data, surgical case review, and/or data abstraction/interpretation/results improvement.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
-
High School diploma or equivalent required. Requires a current RN license with BSN preferred, OR Masters in Public Health (MPH), OR certified medical technologist, OR a bachelor's degree in microbiology or epidemiology. It is preferred that the Infection Prevention Coordinator has two years of clinical experience or has demonstrated progressive accountability and leadership abilities. Certification in the area of clinical expertise is required within 2 years of accepting the position. Competencies such as BLS, ACLS, are unit dependent and determined by the clinical area. Certification- Infection Prevention Specialist through CIC. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a hospital setting.

Knowledge of federal, state, TJC utilization and quality improvement regulations and their application needed. Ability to accept responsibility, analyze problems, evaluate reports, make decisions and recommendations Ability to demonstrate initiative and good judgment in a self-directed role. Ability to use and to interpret data variance and use statistical data. Must be flexible and able to manage job functions despite shifting priorities.
