Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in performing laboratory tests and analyses that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This position requires a strong foundation in laboratory procedures, excellent data analysis skills, and a thorough understanding of anatomy. The Medical Laboratory Technician will work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely results.
Duties
- Conduct various laboratory tests including PCR, immunoassays, and ELISA to analyze biological samples.
- Perform blood sampling and blood banking procedures while adhering to safety protocols.
- Utilize flow cytometry techniques for cell analysis and other laboratory assays.
- Maintain accurate records of test results and ensure data integrity through meticulous documentation.
- Collaborate with medical staff to interpret test results and provide insights for patient care.
- Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and sanitized.
- Adhere to quality control measures and participate in routine laboratory inspections.
Experience
- A degree or certification in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field is required.
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as blood banking, PCR, flow cytometry, and immunoassays is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data accurately.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology as it pertains to laboratory testing is essential.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare professionals.
Performs routine and special laboratory tests within a designated area. Performs quality control tests in a designated area. Provides in service training to other laboratory personnel and students. Must be able to read and interpret laboratory reports, policies and procedures in order to perform proper tests and deliver accurate results. Must be able to effectively communicate with patients and medical staff.
Required Experience: Associate Degree in Applied Science (Lab Science, Chemistry or Biology) from an accredited college or university; or successful completion of a 50-week military training program for medical laboratory specialists. Documented evidence of registration as an MLT or Medical Laboratory Specialist (CLS) through ASCP, AMT, or other accrediting agency.
