The Lactation Consultant RN is responsible for family-centered patient care byassessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for thebreastfeeding / chest-feeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent, and is fullycollaborative with the patient, patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team. The Lactation Consultant RN demonstrates specialized knowledge and clinical expertise in breastfeeding / chest-feeding and human lactation. As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the Lactation Consultant RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and follows Standards of Practice as defined by their professional association, International Lactation Consultant Association, and adheres to policies, procedures, and guidelines of care.Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- Providing lactation assessment, management, education and instruction.
- Performing consultations, rental or sale of lactation equipment and supplies, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate.
- Offering post-delivery consultative care to patients : breastfeeding / chestfeeding, family bonding and planning, etc.
- Coordination and management of care for patients, including those with complex needs.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers, being an advocate for the patient at all times.
- Evaluating patient's response to care and initiates independent and / or collaborative changes where appropriate.
- Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. - Completion of pre-employment drug screening.
- Completion of pre-employment criminal background reference check.
- Completion of pre-employment health evaluation including TB screening and annual or bi-annual reevaluation as indicated by Employee Health.
- One-year minimum experience in pediatric and / or women's hospital preferred.
- The RN must be able to comply with the every other weekend work commitment as well as be available to work and be scheduled any day of the week.
- Computer, internet, order entry and word processing experience preferred.Education / Licensure / Certification :
- BSN required or experienced RN in an accredited BSN program.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- NRP required
- IBCLC required
- Completion of unit orientation and clinical competency validation
Salary : $56 - $77
