Position Summary
The Perioperative Patient Care Assistantperforms basic patient care tasks as a cooperative member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, in the Surgery Services nursing unit at MemorialCare Long BeachMedical Center. He/she reports at all times to a supervising nurse. This position also indirectly supports patient care by providing clerical support to the unit as assigned. The Perioperative Patient Care Assistantfacilitates a safe, clean working environment for all patients, visitors, and staff.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- Performs activities as identified on Perioperative Patient Care Assistant competency checklist while maintaining patient safety, comfort, and privacy.
- Participates as a member of the health care team.
- Respects patient confidentiality at all times.
*Consistently applies infection control policies and procedures.
*Maintains a safe, clean and healthful environment.
*Attends department specific staff meetings, in-services, education and training.
*Participates in selected department specific Performance Improvement Projects.
*Demonstrates skills consistent with standards of practice and Departmental
*Policies and Procedures.
*Participates in orientation of new staff as assigned.
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
- Prior work experience in an acute hospital setting is preferred.
- Must have basic knowledge of standard perioperative care procedures.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is recommended.
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) certification is required.
- High school diploma or equivalency
