Position Summary
The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing safe, cost-effective patient care through the health experience, according to established standards utilizing the nursing process, within the scope of practice of Registered Nursing. The Lactation Consultant RN is responsible for family-centered patient care by
assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the
breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent, and is fully
collaborative with the patient, patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team. The Lactation Consultant RN demonstrates specialized knowledge and clinical expertise in breastfeeding/chest-feeding and human lactation. As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the Lactation Consultant RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and follows Standards of Practice as defined by their professional association, International Lactation Consultant Association, and adheres to policies, procedures, and guidelines of care.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities Of The Job
- Providing lactation assessment, management, education and instruction.
- Performing consultations, rental or sale of lactation equipment and supplies, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate.
- Offering post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/chestfeeding, family bonding and planning, etc.
- Coordination and management of care for patients, including those with complex needs.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers, being an advocate for the patient at all times.
- Evaluating patient's response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate.
- Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.
