What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager- Board position at Memphis Shelby County Schools?

- Assists with ensuring Memphis Shelby County School Board Members are aware of and participate in internal and external events, meetings, training, and committees that are in alignment with their special projects and focus areas.
- Assists with establishing protocol for the office regarding procedures and policies for day-to-day operations based on Memphis Shelby County School Board Members Rules of Order, Approved Resolutions/Ordinances, and the Memphis Shelby County School Board Permanent Rules.
- Assists with the daily general operations of the Memphis Shelby County School Board office.
- Develops and applies solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity creativity and competence in project management and regulations concerning programs managed by the Board such as board policies and procedures, deliverables expected of the Board, and dissemination of contract language, etc.
- Coordinates orientation and ongoing support and assistance for all elected or appointed Board Members.
- Serves as the district liaison between the Board Members and Memphis Shelby County Schools administration.
- Assumes fiscal responsibility for the BOE office budget and the BOE Trust Fund.
- Oversees and processes board allocation requests.
- Collaborates with the Policy Department in conjunction with the Board Chair to maintain BOE policy and procedures manuals; provides Board Members and District staff with necessary information and direction on policy and procedures changes; records all new and revised policies and coordinates with the Policy Department the distribution to all MSCS employees.
- Oversees coordination of special events with Board office personnel, District staff and Chief of Staff as requested by the Board Chair or Board Members.
- Responsible for overseeing, receiving, and coordinating response to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from the community and parents regarding issues, programs, policies, and procedures, in collaboration with the Board Chair, Board Members, and Chief of Staff.
- Organizes and attends all regular Board meetings, committee meetings and/or public hearings with the responsibility of assuring meetings are recorded, minutes compiled and sent to the Board or Committee Chair accurately and following up on action items.
- Ensures all Board meetings and related documents are properly posted to BoardDocs.
- Manages and cultivates efficient work culture for Board office staff and supports problem-solving processes by conducting preliminary research, preparing reports, identifying and recommending possible solutions in coordination with the Board Chair and Chief of Staff.
- Maintains confidentiality and exhibits the highest degree of integrity and ethics.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Public or Business Administration or other closely related field and or equivalent work-related experience, plus 5 years of managerial office experience for a total education /experience of nine (9) years.
(PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED)
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master’s Degree = 2 years plus required years of experience. Where a Master’s degree is required, years for Bachelor’s Degree must be included.
