What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutrition Services Area Manager position at Memphis Shelby County Schools?
Purpose and Scope
Manages, coordinates and assists Nutrition Services personnel within the district and is responsible for managing a multimillion dollar operational budget.
Essential Job Functions
Coordinates Nutrition Service operations according to Federal, state, and Board regulations and policies.
Provides indirect supervision, guidance and assistance to Nutrition Service Supervisors and other department staff; assists with the training of supervisors, supervisor trainees, and employees.
Ensures that cafeteria programs are financially sound and that each cafeteria stays within a planned budget.
Frequently meets with principals at school sites to review concerns regarding food service operations.
Inspects cafeteria operations daily to evaluate food preparation and service, record-keeping, organization, sanitation and other factors that impact the provision of a safe environment for employees and customers.
Implements remedial action as necessary to ensure productivity and cost-efficiency; recommends disciplinary action as warranted.
Reviews production records, time sheets, health reports, daily edit checks, and meal benefit documents to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Board regulations and policies.
Receives and responds to supervisors' requests for substitute workers, extra hours, additional groceries, new equipment and equipment maintenance and repairs.
Performs routine administrative/office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, entering and retrieving computer data.

Attends training, seminars and workshops as necessary to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor?s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or Home Economics plus an additional 4 years of food service operations related experience, or equivalent, for a total education/experience of 8 years.
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
