Summary:
Retail Sales Team Members are responsible for all sales activities and sales team member job duties, from greeting customers/guests, offering assistance, providing exceptional customer service, and answering questions related to the merchandise and the Memphis Zoo.
Essential Job Functions:
- Verbally greet guests, smile, and provide eye contact.
- Foster a guest friendly environment by asking questions and giving directions as needed.
- Respond and handle guest inquiries on the phone and in person.
- Ring up guests quickly while providing exceptional service.
- Give the guests the choice of contributing to our conservation efforts.
- Ensure sales floors are kept clean, uncluttered, and easy to shop.
- Assist in filling in the sales floor as needed.
- Maintain excellent customer service and positive attitude towards guests and co-workers.
- Perform daily opening and closing procedures.
- Maintain inventory accuracy.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 1 year of retail or relevant experience, with a focus on customer service skills.
Skills/Behavior:
- Proficient in use of Point of Sales (POS) Systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on guest satisfaction.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.

Reporting Structure: Reports to Retail Store Manager.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Seasonal positions are defined as temporary work to meet an organization’s temporary needs during certain times of the year and can last up to 6 months. This position can be scheduled to work approximately up to 40 hours per week. Scheduling is at the discretion of the manager. This position is considered non-exempt under the federal and state wage and hour laws.
This position regularly requires flexible hours including weekdays, holidays, and weekends including early morning, daytime, and evening hours to provide coverage during Zoo hours of operation.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in retail stores. The work environment is fast-paced and may involve exposure to warmer or colder temperatures. Employees should be prepared to work in a busy, moderately loud, and dynamic setting.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time, and occasionally required to walk to other retail stores within Zoo grounds. The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
